LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Lake Nakuru is a bird paradise located in the central part of Kenya on the floor of the great rift valley. An estimated 450 species of birds can be seen here. Lake Nakuru is a soda lake most noted for its large number of flamingos, sometimes numbering over a million. In the last decade their numbers have fallen due to the rising water level of the lake, reducing the amount of their food, forcing them to move to other lakes. This national park consists of steep rocky escarpments, dense forests as well as grasslands which provide habitat for many different wildlife species. Some of the animals which can be seen include white rhinos, black rhinos, Rothschild giraffes, lions, cape buffalos, waterbucks, zebras and leopards. We often camp at Makalia Falls Camp.
